Workshop on research methodology

REPORT OF THE RESEARCH METHODOLOGY WORKSHOP Organised by the Department of Botany, MES Kalladi College, Mannarkkad Date: 2 December 2025 The Department of Botany, MES Kalladi College, Mannarkkad (Autonomous) organized a Research Methodology Workshop on 2nd December 2025 at the college Computer Lab. The workshop focused on the theme “Mendeley for Academics: Organizing References, Conducting Literature Reviews, and Avoiding Plagiarism.” The session was conducted with the objective of equipping students and research aspirants with essential skills for managing academic references and maintaining research integrity. The programme commenced at 10:00 AM with the Welcome Address delivered by Shahana Jasmi A, Coordinator of the workshop. She highlighted the importance of reference management tools and emphasized the relevance of research ethics in academic writing. The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. Nazeema MK, Head of the Department of Botany. She discussed the growing need for digital competence in research and appreciated the initiative taken by the department. This was followed by the Inaugural Address by Dr. C. Rajesh, Principal of MES Kalladi College. In his inaugural remarks, he stressed the importance of adopting advanced research methodologies and encouraged students to develop a strong research culture. The Felicitation was offered by Dr. Syama Psychod, Department of Zoology, who congratulated the organisers for conducting a workshop beneficial for the academic community. The technical session was handled by Ms. Saliha, Librarian, MES Asmabi College, Kodungallur. She provided an in-depth demonstration of Mendeley—including installation, reference importing, citation styles, PDF management, literature review methods, and techniques for avoiding plagiarism. The session was highly interactive, and participants gained hands-on experience with the software. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Faseeh K, expressing gratitude to the resource person, dignitaries, organisers, and participants for making the workshop a success

World Aids Day Awareness Talk & One health Campaign

The Department of Botany and Zoology in association with the Family Health Centre, Kumaramputhur, organized an Awareness Programme on World AIDS Day as part of public health education and student sensitization. The programme aimed to enhance understanding about HIV/AIDS, its prevention, stigma reduction, and the importance of adopting a health-conscious lifestyle. The session began with a welcome address by Mr. Sunil K., Health Inspector, Kumaramputhur, who highlighted the relevance of observing World AIDS Day and the need for continued awareness in the community.The key awareness talk was delivered by Dr. Abdul Rasheed, Medical Officer, Family Health Centre, Kumaramputhur. He gave an informative and engaging session on the causes of HIV/AIDS, methods of transmission, preventive measures, the importance of early testing, and the availability of treatment facilities. His talk emphasized removing misconceptions and promoting an inclusive attitude towards individuals living with HIV.As part of the programme, a health campaign speech on the One Health Scheme, a government initiative integrating human, animal, and environmental health, was delivered by Mr. Jaison, Section Forest Officer, Kumaramputhur. His session explained the significance of coordinated health management and its role in preventing emerging diseases. A felicitation speech was given by Serena Miss, Associate, who appreciated the efforts of the health officials and emphasized the importance of such awareness activities for students.The presidential address was delivered by Ms. Nazeema, Head of the Department of Botany, who highlighted the responsibility of educational institutions in creating socially responsible citizens and promoting public health education. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Syama Miss, expressing gratitude to all resource persons, faculty, and students for making the programme a success.

Addressing cross cutting issues- Field visit to Riparian Ecosystem

This field visit to the Kunthippuzha River Basin focuses on exploring the structure, function, and significance of riparian ecosystems, which serve as vital ecological corridors connecting terrestrial and aquatic habitats. Through guided observation and interactive learning, participants will examine cross-cutting environmental and socio-economic issues influencing riverine landscapes, including biodiversity loss, water resource challenges, community dependencies, invasive species threat, and climate change impacts. The visit aims to bridge classroom knowledge with real-world ecosystem understanding, encouraging informed conservation action and sustainable management of freshwater resources.

GenAI Skill Builder: PyCharm Edition

A one-day workshop was organized on 27 November 2025 to enhance participants’ understanding of Generative AI using PyCharm. The session introduced the fundamentals of Generative AI, practical applications, and hands-on demonstrations using PyCharm for AI-driven development. The resource person explained key concepts, tools, and workflows, enabling students to gain practical exposure and improve their technical skills. The workshop aimed to build confidence in using modern AI tools and support students in developing industry-relevant competencies.
