Profile
The Department of Zoology at MES Kalladi College has a strong academic legacy rooted in its establishment in 1967 as part of the Pre-Degree programme with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. During this period, the Department of Biology was jointly led by Mr. P. Dharmapalan (Zoology) and Ms. N. Ramadevi (Botany), laying a solid foundation for biological sciences education.
With the introduction of the Degree Programme in 1971, separate Departments of Zoology and Botany were established. The Zoology Department, under Ms. L. Dora, expanded its academic scope and supported interdisciplinary learning by offering complementary courses for Botany students.
Since 2021, the department has contributed to the Integrated M.Sc. Psychology programme by offering Complementary Physiology. Currently, under the FYUG framework aligned with NEP 2020, the department provides Minor and multidisciplinary courses that promote flexibility, skill development, and interdisciplinary exposure.
The programme covers key areas such as animal diversity, human physiology, genetics, ecology, evolution, and environmental biology. A blended teaching approach, supported by ICT tools, interactive methods, and a well-equipped laboratory, ensures practical learning and scientific skill development, fostering academic excellence and environmental awareness.
