Institutional Visit CUSAT

A research institution visit was organized to Cochin University of Science and Technology for first-year B.Sc. Chemistry (FYUGP) students on 05.12.2026. A total of 39 students participated in the programme, accompanied by faculty members Dr. Juliya A. P. and Dr. Ajay Ajith, who served as escorts and coordinators for the visit. The group commenced their journey from the college at around 5:30 a.m. and reached the CUSAT campus by approximately 10:00 a.m. Upon arrival, the students were warmly received by members of the Department of Chemistry. For effective interaction and learning, the students were divided into four groups, each guided by research scholars from the department. This arrangement ensured that every student had the opportunity to closely observe and understand the facilities and ongoing research activities. The visit included a comprehensive tour of advanced research laboratories and specialized instrumentation facilities. The research scholars provided detailed demonstrations and explanations of various sophisticated instruments, including UV-Visible Spectrophotometers, Infrared (IR) Spectrometers, Mass Spectrometers, and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) systems. Students were introduced to the principles, working mechanisms, and practical applications of these instruments in modern chemical research. In addition to technical exposure, the interaction with research scholars offered students valuable insights into higher studies, research opportunities, and career pathways in chemistry. The visit significantly enhanced the students’ understanding of real-world scientific practices beyond the classroom. Overall, the programme was highly informative and inspiring. The students expressed great enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the visit, and many reported feeling motivated to pursue research-oriented careers in the future.
