BOARD OF STUDIES MEETING AND SYLLABUS FINALIZATION
The Board of Studies in Chemistry of MES Kalladi College (Autonomous), Mannarkkad, convened on 27 February 2026 to finalize the revised syllabus for the B.Sc. Chemistry Honours with Research and M.Sc. Chemistry programmes. The meeting was held in a formal academic setting with both offline and online participation, ensuring the involvement of internal faculty members, university nominees, external subject experts, industry representatives, and alumni. The primary objective of the meeting was to review, refine, and approve a comprehensive, updated, and outcome-based curriculum in line with the autonomous status of the institution. The syllabus revision process was carried out in a systematic, transparent, and academically rigorous manner. Prior to the Board of Studies meeting, a Syllabus Review and Refinement Workshop was conducted with eminent academicians and subject experts in the field of Chemistry. During this workshop, valuable suggestions were received based on current academic trends, emerging research areas, interdisciplinary approaches, and industry requirements. These inputs were carefully documented and later presented before the Board of Studies for detailed discussion. During the meeting, the Board thoroughly examined all proposed modifications and unanimously approved the revised syllabi. In the case of the M.Sc. Chemistry programme, only minor revisions were incorporated, including the addition of updated and emerging topics and the removal of obsolete content, thereby ensuring alignment with recent scientific advancements while maintaining the core academic structure. For the Four-Year B.Sc. Chemistry Honours with Research programme, significant enrichment was made by introducing an additional paper titled “Chemistry for Competitive Examinations” under the MDC (Multi-Disciplinary Course) basket. This inclusion aims to enhance students’ preparedness for national-level competitive examinations and improve their career prospects. The finalized syllabus is well-structured, student-centered, and designed to promote academic excellence, research orientation, and industry relevance. It incorporates Outcome-Based Education (OBE), skill development components, and exposure to modern tools and techniques in chemistry. The Board also emphasized the importance of integrating research projects, internships, and interdisciplinary learning to equip students with the necessary competencies for higher studies and professional careers. In addition to curriculum revision, the department proposed the continuation and introduction of certificate courses for the academic year 2025–26, aimed at enhancing practical skills, employability, and industry readiness among students. Furthermore, a panel of experienced and qualified examiners from reputed academic and research institutions was constituted to ensure fair evaluation practices and the maintenance of high academic standards. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Mohammed Musthafa T. N., Head of the Department of Chemistry, and was attended by all Board of Studies members, including faculty representatives, external academic experts, a university nominee, an industry expert, and an alumni representative. The collaborative discussions and expert inputs played a crucial role in shaping a dynamic and future-oriented curriculum. The Board of Studies formally approved the revised syllabus and resolved to forward it to the Academic Council for final approval. The department expressed confidence that the updated curriculum would significantly contribute to the holistic development of students by fostering scientific knowledge, research skills, and professional competence. The meeting concluded on a positive note, marking a significant milestone in the academic advancement of the Department of Chemistry and reaffirming its commitment to quality education and continuous curriculum improvement.
