Careers in Broadcast media - Insights and opportunities

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, M.E.S. Kalladi College, Mannarkkad, organized a Career Guidance Session on “Careers in Broadcast Media - Insights and Opportunities” on 20th August 2025 at the Satyajit Ray Audio Visual Theatre. The programme was inaugurated by the Principal, Dr. C. Rajesh, who urged students to utilize the college facilities and explore innovative career paths. The session was led by Mr. Sarang S, Journalist at News 18 Kerala and an alumnus of the department, who shared valuable insights on the prospects and challenges of broadcast media, motivating students to pursue opportunities in television and digital platforms.

This career guidance session aimed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the career prospects, challenges, and opportunities in the field of broadcast media. It also sought to inspire budding journalists to pursue their aspirations in television and digital broadcasting through practical insights shared by an industry professional. The programme began with a brief introduction by the faculty of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. The welcome address highlighted the significance of organizing career-oriented sessions for students in the rapidly evolving media landscape. The inaugural address was delivered by the Principal, Dr. C. Rajesh, who urged the students to make the best use of the facilities provided by the college. He encouraged them to explore possibilities of entrepreneurship, cultivate new ideas, and remain open to innovative thinking while preparing for career opportunities. Following the introduction, Mr. Sarang S began the interactive session by sharing his professional journey from student life at M.E.S. Kalladi College to becoming a journalist at News 18 Kerala. Mr. Sarang encouraged students to take advantage of practical training opportunities, internships, and workshops to build confidence and industry knowledge. He also emphasized the importance of ethics and credibility in news reporting. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where students actively engaged with the resource person and sought clarity on career-building strategies in the media industry. Students gained first-hand exposure to the career prospects in broadcast media through the session, which effectively bridged the gap between academic learning and industry practices.
