SYLLABUS REVIEW AND REFINEMENT WORKSHOP

The Research & Post Graduate Department of Chemistry, MES Kalladi College, Mannarkkad (Autonomous), organized a “Syllabus Review and Refinement Workshop” on 12th January 2026 at 10:00 AM as part of the curriculum restructuring process following the conferment of autonomous status to the institution. The workshop was conducted with the objective of revising and enhancing the B.Sc. and M.Sc. Chemistry syllabi for the academic year 2026–27, ensuring alignment with current academic standards, industry requirements, and research advancements. The programme commenced with a formal welcome, followed by the inaugural session. The initiative marked a significant step in strengthening the academic framework of the department by incorporating flexibility, interdisciplinary approaches, and outcome-based education in the curriculum. The workshop was enriched by the presence of distinguished subject experts from reputed institutions: Prof. (Dr.) Ramesh A.R., Professor, Department of Chemistry, Govt. Victoria College, Palakkad Dr. Jamsheer A.M., Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, DGM MES College (Autonomous), Mampad Dr. Cyril Augustine, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, St. Berchmans College (Autonomous), Changanacherry Dr. Rony Rajan Paul, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, CMS College (Autonomous), Kottayam Each expert contributed valuable insights on modernizing the syllabus in accordance with national and global academic trends. They emphasized the importance of integrating recent developments in chemistry, skill-oriented modules, research exposure, and employability-focused components into both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The sessions included detailed discussions on core and elective papers, credit distribution, laboratory components, project work, and evaluation methods. Special focus was given to Outcome-Based Education (OBE), Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS), and the inclusion of interdisciplinary and value-added courses. The experts also suggested the incorporation of emerging areas such as green chemistry, computational chemistry, nanoscience, and industrial applications to make the curriculum more relevant and future-oriented. Faculty members of the department actively participated in the deliberations, presenting their perspectives and engaging in constructive discussions with the experts. The collaborative effort ensured a comprehensive revision process, addressing both academic rigor and practical applicability. The Principal, Dr. Jasmine P.M., extended her full support to the initiative and appreciated the department’s efforts in organizing such a meaningful academic exercise. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Mohammed Musthafa T.N., Head of the Department, who played a key role in planning and executing the programme effectively. The workshop concluded with a productive outcome, laying a strong foundation for the implementation of a revised, dynamic, and student-centric syllabus for the academic year 2026–27. The programme reaffirmed the department’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and continuous quality improvement in higher education.
